Science Magazine reports a 120 million years old ancient snake fossil most recently, which was found in Brazil by British experts...
This 120 million years old fossil was remarkably well-preserved. For now, several scientists debate whether this species is truly an ancestor of modern snakes or not. Furthermore, there also are some mysteries about a location and time of excavation of the sample, as there are no documents verifying the origin, nor how the sample ended up in a German museum (some sources suggest it was smuggled out Brazil).
The newly discovered species has finally been named as Tetrapodophis amplectus, which means "four-limbed serpent".
