A new species of boa has been described from Bahamian Conception Island recently...
Silver boa (Chilabothrus argentum) has been discovered by American experts on Conception Island bank. This shiny metallic colored boa is probably native only to this remote Bahamian island, where their number was estimated to be less than a 1000. Silver boa adults barely reach 1 meter (3,5 ft) in length and prey only on birds.
The newly described snake species is critically endangered. Although Conception Island is a national parkland that is visited only in limited numbers, natural disasters, non-native feral cats and dogs are a serious threat for reptiles.
